How We Use Real News
Our articles are grounded in real aviation incidents. We source real events, verify that they actually happened using published news coverage, and then write satirical commentary about them. We link to our sources at the bottom of every article.
We paraphrase all source reporting. We do not lift quotes, passages, or original reporting from other outlets. The satirical angle — the framing, the voice, the editorial take — is entirely our own.
What We Fictionalize
We exaggerate. We editorialize. We invent imagined context, hypothetical reactions, and comedic framing that did not appear in the original reporting. The underlying incident is real; the treatment is comedy. Think of it as improv built on a true premise.
We do not fabricate quotes and attribute them to real people. We do not present invented facts as if they were reported. If something in a GOMP article sounds too absurd to be true, that is the point — the absurdity is intentional.
What We Won't Write About
We do not satirize passengers who are experiencing medical emergencies, mental health crises, or discrimination. We do not cover stories where the primary hook is political controversy rather than aviation. We do not punch down at people having genuinely bad days through no fault of their own.
Corrections Policy
If we have misrepresented a real underlying event — gotten the facts of the actual incident wrong before applying our satirical treatment — we will correct it. Corrections are noted in the article with an updated date and a brief explanation of what changed.
We do not issue corrections for comedic exaggerations, invented details added for humor, or editorial opinions — those are features, not bugs.
